Saaho Movie Review: Stylish , high octane action thriller suffers heavily due to sloppy writing
Wait is finally over as this Prabhas starrer, hyped up as one of the most expensive movies with a massive budget of 350 crores releases worldwide this week. Based on the kind of euphoria which it has created much before the release, need to check if deserves to be one of the biggest blockbusters
When the big boss( Jackie Shroff) of crime syndicate, controlling the worldwide operations plans to invest heavily in India , massive funds are transferred through the sea route . Roy is murdered in a staged accident and the ship with huge amount of money explodes leaving questions about the empty position to be filled. There is a big surprise for the crime Syndicate when they discover about the hidden secret about Roy’s son back in India. Devraj( Chunkey pandey) who had plotted Roy’s murder is upset about Roy’s son Vishwank( Arun vijay) snatching the prestigious position from him. Back in India, the cops re investigating a hi-profile robbery and special officer Ashok chakravarthy ( Prabhas) takes in charge ,who is impressed with another officer Amrita Nair( Shrddha Kapoor) ,wants her to assist him. It is the brilliance of Ashok , which leads the Team to a person( Neil Nitin Mukesh) who is suspected to be involved in the crime. When they start chasing this suspect, more interesting facts about some Black box are revealed. Vishwank fully aware about the Blackbox, which is the key to huge amount of accumulated wealth, send his team member Kalki( Mandira bedi) to India. The Team led by Ashok, Kalki and the third person ( Neil Nitin Mukesh) are all desperate to trace the Blackbox.
What happens next? Who manages to get the Blackbox? Does Devraj allow Vishwank take control of the prestigious crime Syndicate? How are Ashok and Amrita connected to the black box and the crime syndicate?
The basic plot is quite exciting, power struggle within the biggest crime syndicate, massive robbery, high profile investigation, unexpected twists, mind-blowing stunts and special effects. In addition , dream star cast led by Prabhas and shradhha kapoor with plenty of versatile supporting actors .Despite all these factors, film suffers heavily due to sloppy writing which results in a slow paced , confusing thriller. Sujeeth’s direction already handicapped by mediocre script, makes some of the pre interval scenes less interesting. He starts gathering some momentum in the post interval, successfully handling those High octane action scenes towards the thrilling climax . There are some beautifully shot songs on the virgin locations, looks forced though. Background score is strictly okay, should have been more impactful for this kind of mass spectacle
Prabhas stars hitting form when it is time for some mind blowing action .It seems like his cool and casual attitude must be on purpose to show the carefree nature of the undercover cop .Shraddha kapoor is brutally honest . Since there are too many versatile actors in the supporting cast , each one gets minimum footage and they have neatly done their jobs. Chunkey pandey almost unrecognizable as Devraj is terrific , same goes to Arun vijay who has stylishly portrayed the role of Vishwank.Neil Nitin Mukesh and Mandira bedi are good
